There are bags you save for. There are bags you wait years for. And then there are bags that just make you want to get dressed in the morning. The Kelly Hobo is the latter - and after nearly a decade away, it is finally back.
A Beloved Bag Returns
First designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier for Hermès' Fall/Winter 2008 collection, the So Kelly was one of those rare bags that managed to feel simultaneously effortless and extraordinary. It had the DNA of the Kelly - the silhouette, the turn-lock closure, the unmistakable Hermès craftsmanship - but none of the formality. Relaxed, slouchy, and endlessly wearable, it became one of the most quietly coveted bags in the Hermès universe. When it was discontinued in 2016, the pre-loved market never forgot it.

Now it is back. Officially named the Kelly Hobo for SS26, the new version stays true to everything that made the original so beloved while introducing one meaningful refinement: the metal D-rings are gone, replaced by slim leather straps that extend seamlessly from the body of the bag. The result is cleaner, more architectural, and even more beautiful than what came before.
The Bag for Every Version of Your Life
This is where the Kelly Hobo does something most Hermès bags do not - it meets you wherever you are.
A Saturday morning coffee run. A long lunch that turns into dinner. A weekend away where you need one bag that does everything. A Tuesday where you just want to feel put together without trying too hard. The relaxed bucket silhouette means it works over the shoulder, under the arm, or slung crossbody - and it works with a linen dress just as naturally as it does with tailoring.
It does not ask you to dress up to it. It dresses up to you. And in a world where most luxury bags demand a certain kind of occasion to justify them, that is genuinely rare.
The SS26 colours capture this spirit perfectly - electric violet and poppy red for when you want the bag to do the talking, and classic black for when you want it to quietly complete the picture. There is a version of this bag for every mood, every season, and every occasion.

When Can You Get One?
Not yet. We think it is unlikely to arrive in stores before autumn 2026. But this is precisely the kind of bag worth mentioning to your SA now - before everyone else does. Once it lands, it will move quickly.
Is It a Quota Bag?
In line with other bags in the Kelly family - such as the Kelly Danse - we think the Kelly Hobo is likely to be a quota bag. However, you should not need the same purchase history required for a Birkin or classic Kelly to be offered one.
That said, it does not mean easy. This bag already has serious buzz and it has not even arrived in stores yet. The early conversation with your SA will matter.
FAQs
The Kelly Hobo is a relaxed, bucket-style bag from Hermès that shares the DNA of the classic Kelly - the silhouette, the turn-lock closure, the craftsmanship - but with a softer, more casual feel. It was originally known as the So Kelly, first designed by Jean-Paul Gaultier for Fall/Winter 2008 and discontinued in 2016. It returns for SS26 under the name Kelly Hobo with one key refinement: metal D-rings replaced by slim leather straps.
We believe it is non-quota, in line with other bags in the Kelly family such as the Kelly Danse. That means you should not need the same purchase history required for a classic Birkin or Kelly to be offered one. That said, non-quota does not mean easy - demand is already high before it has even reached stores.
The Kelly Hobo is available in two sizes: Mini and 26cm.
The Kelly Hobo will be available in Evercolor, Evergrain, and Matte Alligator.
So far we know it will be available in: Noir, Purple, Poppy Red, Orange, Craie and Bai Brun.
An official price has not yet been confirmed. Based on comparable Hermès bags and the leathers available, we estimate around €9,000-€10,000 for the standard leathers. Matte Alligator will be significantly higher.
We expect the Kelly Hobo to arrive in stores from autumn 2026. It is worth mentioning your interest to your SA now, before waiting lists form.
The Kelly Hobo is a direct evolution of the So Kelly. The silhouette and character are the same - relaxed, slouchy, effortlessly wearable. The key change is the removal of the metal D-rings, replaced by slim leather straps that extend from the body of the bag. The result is cleaner and more refined than the original.
