Shop the Hermès Dans les bras de Séléné scarf 90 in a special edition created for the Fondation Paint a Smile. Drawn four-handed by Edouard Baribeaud and Sophia Andreotti, the design takes its cue from a line attributed to the naturalist John Muir, who went into the forest to lose his mind and find his soul. Séléné, the Greek goddess of the Moon, cradles the crescent in her arms beneath a flowering canopy, surrounded by a squirrel, a robin, an owl and a dense tangle of ferns, oak and wild berries. Look closely and you’ll find the words “Hermès pour Paint a Smile” worked into the branches.

Paint a Smile is a Swiss foundation that paints murals in hospitals and care settings, each one shaped with the carers, patients and families who live and work there. For a child on a long stay or a parent waiting through a hard night, the walls become somewhere to rest the eyes and a reason to smile. Hermès offered this special edition in its boutiques in support of that work.

The palette is soft and bright at once. A white ground sets off petrol-blue pine, loden and emerald leaves, buttercup yellow blossom and the warm gold of Séléné’s cloak, framed by a delicate floral border. It’s a gentle, storybook colourway that wears beautifully knotted at the neck or tied to a bag. Printed on silk twill with hand-rolled edges and made in France, this piece was offered in Hermès boutiques alongside the Fondation Paint a Smile, whose murals bring colour into hospitals and care spaces. It comes with the Paint a Smile booklet, and is brand new in its original box.
